During your citizenship ceremony

We are not taking any applications or bookings for citizenship ceremonies during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic

During the ceremony, you will need to make an oath of allegiance (swear by Almighty God) or an affirmation of allegiance to HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Oath of allegiance

These are the words you will say if you choose the oath of allegiance.

I (name) swear by almighty God that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her Heirs and Successors, according to law.

I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen. 

Affirmation of allegiance

These are the words you will say if you choose the affirmation of allegiance.

I (name) do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her Heirs and Successors, according to law. 

I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen.
