You could get Small Business Rate Relief if your business property's rateable value is less than £15,000.

Help for charities

You'll usually get an automatic 80% discount on your business rates bill if your business property is used as a charity or a Community Amateur Sports Club.

You can also print and fill in our charity relief form (PDF 55KB) to apply for for a 100% discount, but we can't always do this due to limited funds.

Help for retail properties from April 2020

From 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021, you'll usually get an automatic 50% discount on your business rates bill if your business property is used primarily for retail.

Your property needs to be in use and have a rateable value of less than £51,000 for this discount.

Following the Budget announcement on 11th March 2020 the automatic discount has been increased to 100%, and there has been further categories of businesses added to the qualifying list.

The Business Rates team is preparing the relevant accounts and will soon issue revised bills.

Retail properties include:

  • shops
  • restaurants
  • cafes
  • drinking venues
  • cinema and live music venues  - from 1 April 2020

New categories from 1 April are:

  • cinema and live music venues (announced in January 2020)
  • museums, art galleries and theatres
  • caravan parks, gyms and sports clubs
  • small hotels, B&B and guest houses
  • night clubs and club houses

Help for pubs April 2020 to March 2021

If your business property is a pub with a rateable value less than £100,000, you'll get an automatic £1,000 discount on your business rates bill.

Following the Budget announcement on 11th March 2020 the automatic discount has been increase to £5000.00.

The Business Rates team is preparing the relevant accounts and will soon issue revised bills.
