What the Healthy Choice scheme is
These pages have details of cafés, restaurants and takeaways signed up to our Healthy Choice scheme. These businesses are committed to preparing, cooking and serving meals in a healthier way.
Businesses make Healthy Choice Commitments. Those that make a range of commitments receive a Healthy Choice Award.
Once a business has signed up they can display the Healthy Choice logo in their business.
Outlets must have a food hygiene rating score of 3 or above to take part.

Adopted a sugary drinks levy supporting the Children's Health Fund. Prepares meals from scratch using fresh ingredients. 64 Degrees registered its Healthy Choice commitments in October 2015.

Belchers Café
Adopted a Sugar Smart policy which includes low-sugar condiments and sugar-free drinks for children. It doesn’t promote high sugar snacks at the point of sale. Belchers Café renewed its Healthy Choice commitments in July 2016.
Bellerby and Embassy College cafeteria
Promotes healthy eating to students. Offers a range of home-cooked dishes and salads. It displays its healthier snacks and drinks prominently. The cafeteria received its Healthy Choice award in October 2015.
The Bevy
Offers a Saturday morning breakfast menu with the traditional full English as well as healthier alternatives. It serves fresh fruit salads, low sugar granola and fresh pressed vegetable-based juices. The Bevy received its Healthy Choice award in April 2016.
The Big Bowl
Makes dishes with fresh ingredients and healthier cooking methods like steaming and baking. The Big Bowl received its Healthy Choice award in October 2015.
Black Radish

This café on Western Road cooks traditional breakfasts and lunches in a healthier way. It uses high quality ingredients, swapped to better oil and sourced healthier drink alternatives. Fine Eat received its Healthy Choice award in May 2018.

Minimises the sugar and salt content of meals and provides balanced dishes. The Flip Side of Food received its Healthy Choice award in February 2016.

The Garden Café
Situated in St. Ann Well’s Garden, the café offers freshly prepared homemade meals. They do not add seasonings to children’s dishes and freshly prepare them onsite. The Garden Café received its Healthy Choice award in October 2019.
Gem’s Wholesome Kitchen
Offers healthy and balanced plant-based options to her customers. All dishes are homemade and freshly prepared, using high quality ingredients. She meets our healthy choice criteria and is therefore part of the Healthy Choice scheme. Gem's Wholesome Kitchen received its Healthy Choice award in 2019.
The Good Food Shop
Offers salad boxes, sandwiches, freshly baked baps and jacket potatoes. It sources ingredients locally and freshly prepares food onsite. The shop is Sugar Smart. The Good Food Shop received its Healthy Choice award in August 2017.
Hamilton Lodge School
