Actions required to prevent rise in coronavirus cases in the care sector
Stuart Miller as Director of Adult Social Care Delivery at DHSC has written a letter (on 11 September 2020) to all care providers advising the Adult Social Care Winter Plan is due to be published soon. Mr Miller highlights the importance of regular testing and consistent use of PPE to prevent the rise in COVID-19 cases in care homes. A key point of interest to note in the letter under the Testing section is:
"Please be aware that care homes do not automatically receive their next round of regular testing and so each care home needs to reorder towards the end of each round of testing. Care homes are able to reapply 21 days after their last order.
In response to concerns raised with us about turnaround times, we have taken action to address the issue, including a new process for prioritising care home tests in laboratories. We will continue to monitor this closely and take further action if needed."

Covid-19 testing for frontline key workers
You can book a drive-through test using the Government’s new self-referral portal. This gives you access to testing site at Gatwick:
- Gatwick: Gatwick Airport, Summer Special Car Park, Horley, Gatwick RH6 0PJ
The Government have also published a guide for using the self-referral portal.
