Effective use of the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)
Advice for childcare providers on using the Early Year Pupil Premium (EYPP).
How to spend the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)
The choice of how to spend the EYPP is yours, but this must be based on the needs of the eligible children at your setting. Effective ways to spend the money include buying professional development for staff teams and paying for extra hours for existing staff to work directly with eligible children. In some settings the EYPP has been spent on employing a new member of staff with a specific expertise or qualification.
EYPP and support for looked after children and children who are adopted
The spending of the EYPP for children who are looked after or who are adopted must be directly related to the specific eligible children. If a child has an Early Years Personal Education Plan (EYPEP) the EYPP should be used to support the identified actions. This may include ways to develop awareness of attachment through further training.
Ofsted expectations
Inspectors will track the progress of a child who is identified as eligible for the EYPP. Ofsted may ask how the EYPP has impacted positively on children's learning and development, so it is very important to keep accurate records of children's achievements before and after any EYPP project, intervention or initiative that you introduce.
