Site waste management plans
The Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) Regulations (2008) were revoked by the government in December 2013.
They are no longer a legal requirement in England for construction projects starting onsite after 1 December 2013.
However, despite this change in regulation, SWMPs are still considered to be good practice onsite. They are designed to:
- encourage better waste management practices
- improve environmental performance, and
- reduce the cost of waste disposal.
Additionally, policies in our adopted Waste and Minerals Plan require new development proposals to minimise the waste arising from construction, demolition and excavation activities, as well as managing the waste which is produced sustainably.
Production of a SWMP is an effective way of complying with these policies.
