Severe mental impairment
People with a severe mental impairment are not included when working out Council Tax.
This can include people with Alzheimer's Disease or another form of dementia.
If you think someone in your household has a severe mental impairment, you can apply for a discount.
Disabled band reduction
If you or someone who lives with you has a disability, your Council Tax band could be lowered to the next band down. For example, if your property is in band C, you could get charged for band B instead.
For this discount, your property must have one of the following:
- an extra kitchen or bathroom which meets the needs of the person with the disability
- a room other than a kitchen or bathroom which meets the needs of the person with the disability
- a resident who uses a wheelchair indoors
