How field officers help deliver services

Field officers bring council services out to the city’s communities. They’re out in the city between midday and 8pm, 7 days a week.

They work closely with communities and partners. They do enforcement and inspection work across different council services.

Field officers are there to help residents with community issues. They cover issues related to various services, including: 

The main things field officers do are:

  • work with residents and communities to help solve local issues by involving appropriate partner and council services
  • report issues they can’t deal with to council colleagues and partners
  • support colleagues and partners by gathering evidence, so we can deal with issues reported by residents quickly, like a breach of planning conditions, unauthorised signage, anti-social behaviour and noise nuisance investigations
  • support colleagues and partners by targeting ‘hotspot’ areas over weekends and evenings
  • field officers will work with colleagues from the City Parks, Seafront and Travellers teams to investigate and enforce PSPO offences
  • attend community meetings to better understand residents’ concerns and help plan solutions

We’ll review the role of the field officers regularly, to make sure it meets community and service needs, resource, and seasonal demands.
