Job introduction

Various hours to cover staff absence supporting the council’s nurseries across the City. This is a bank staff position which means we cannot guarantee regular hours - it is not Fixed, Part-Time or Full-Time work.

Hourly rate - £10.01

In Brighton & Hove we have seven Early Years Children’s Centre Nurseries that provide high quality care and educational opportunities for children aged from birth to 5 years. Our nurseries include: Acorn Nursery, Bright Start Nursery, Cherry Tree Nursery, Jump Start Nursery, Roundabout Nursery, Pavilion Playgroup and Tarnerland Nursery School. These nurseries are also linked to Children’s Centre’s where groups for parents are run alongside a crèche for their children.

About the role

We are looking for relief nursery and crèche assistants who can be flexible and provide ad hoc cover for staff absences as and when required, sometimes on a regular basis.

We currently also have a number of additional support roles working with children with SEND that are available on a regular basis each week for the remainder of this school year, with some continuing after that.

Applicants must have the enthusiasm to work in a childcare setting supporting children in their care and learning. Candidates do not have to have a child care qualification but a willingness and understanding of the needs of children.

The role involves ensuring a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment; providing quality care and educational learning opportunities; meeting individual needs and sometimes providing 1:1 support. Duties will include taking part in adult focused and child led activities; observing children at play and identifying next steps for development; preparing and serving snacks, encouraging good nutrition and sociable eating and working towards our policies and procedures.

The advert will be extended on a monthly basis until the headcount is recruited to.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: This role does not meet the requirement for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Successful candidates will need to evidence that they have the Right to Work in the UK.
