Job introduction

Would you like a chance to shape the built environment?

Brighton & Hove City Council’s Planning Department have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Town Planner Level 7 apprentice. The Department is responsible for preparing strategic plans, processing planning applications and investigating possible breaches of planning.

The course at level 7 is run by the University of Brighton who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

Apprentices will gain knowledge in dealing with planning applications; investigating potential breaches of planning and assisting with the preparation of City Plan Part 2.

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

Whilst this apprenticeship position is advertised as full time, we also welcome applications from those who are looking for part time opportunities.

Flexible working is supported where possible, local government salary-related pension offered, a child care voucher scheme as well the benefits of gaining staff discounts around the City and through many of the UK’s largest retailers and accessing other services. As an Apprentice you are also eligible to gain an apprentice NUS card and can take advantage of the Catch the bus4work scheme.

Deadline for Applications: midnight 7th July 2019

Start Date: Mid September

Please note, your application may be shared with the training provider.

The duration of the apprenticeship will be up to 5 years (depending on experience).

For an informal discussion, please contact Stewart Glassar - (Principal Planning Officer) on 01273 292153.

We highly recommend you read the ‘Statement Guidance’ below before you apply for this job. It is important you are able to show how you meet the Person Specification when applying. Not following this guidance is likely to reduce your chances of success.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.

Company information

We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, LGB, female or trans as these groups are currently under-represented in our Directorate workforce.

As part of Brighton & Hove City Council's ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process, without prior notice if a suitable redeployee (internal employee at risk of redundancy) is identified.
