If so, then this could be the job for you. The Arboricultural Service at Brighton 
& Hove City council is looking for qualified climbing arborists to join their professional team

You will be responsible for carrying out specialist, arboricultural and associated operations, maintaining the city’s urban and woodland treescapes and the National Elm Collection, ensuring that all works are completed competently and in accordance with treeworks legislation.

About the role

The city of Brighton & Hove has a vast and diverse treescape comprising parkland, woodland and over 16,000 street trees and is home to the National Elm Collection.  The council’s Arboricultural Service is responsible for maintaining all those aspects to a highly professional and safe standard. 

In addition, the Service manages tree maintenance for the council’s Housing department, acts as a consultant for the Estates, Planning and Cemeteries departments and closely liaise with the Highways department, local contractors, architects and developers.

The Arboricultural Service is seeking to employ full-time, experienced climbing arborists to currently work from our base at Stanmer Park.

The ideal candidates should be self-motivated, hard-working and able to deliver arboricultural works to a high standard.

The role of Arborist requires a wide range of experience in the operation and basic maintenance of all types of tree work equipment especially chainsaws and chippers.  A sound knowledge of health and safety relating to tree work is essential.

As a minimum, candidates are required to hold NTPC certificates (CS 30, 31, 38 and 39) and a full UK driving licence, preferably with C1 + E entitlement.

Contracted working hours are 37 per week, Monday to Friday, and candidates must also be available to participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.

We are seeking keen, dedicated and responsible arborists who can demonstrate the following qualities:

- Able and willing to work as part of a small team

- Good people skills and ability to build lasting relationships

- Ability to provide a high standard of pruning and felling

- Awareness of Health & Safety legislation relating to tree works

- Experience in writing site specific risk assessments

- Knowledge of basic vehicle and machinery maintenance

- Willingness to undertake additional training

- Ability to identify a wide range of tree species

- Availability to work as part of an emergency call-out rota scheme

- A conscientious approach to personal health and safety in the workplace

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
