We are seeking an experienced, qualified Planning Manager to lead one of our two established Development Management teams in the Planning Service.  You will lead a team determining over 1700 applications annually and handling a portfolio of around 20 major developments transforming the shape and look of our city. You will support your team as they continue their journey to transform service delivery and provide a customer focused, responsive, modern service.

In the Planning Service we are investing in our staff and developing a modern, positive and customer-focused Planning Service.  We are seeking an experienced, qualified Planning Manager to lead one of our two established Development Management teams.

You will be responsible for all applications coming forward in half of the city and lead our planning enforcement work. You will be part of the senior leadership team for the service and participate in the wider development and shaping of the whole service going forward.  You will lead a team of up to twelve professional officers dealing with up to 1700 applications per year a portfolio of around 20 major developments transforming the shape and look of our city. You will proactively facilitate the delivery of development the city needs through active management of major projects and caseloads, from pre-application to completion – using Planning Performance Agreements and a project management regime. There is a pipeline of important schemes coming forward in the city including Brighton Marina, Seafront proposals, the Gasworks, the hospital sites and a number of council-led housing projects.

To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced, positive and pro-active town planner with a track record in delivering major regeneration schemes. You will be an accomplished manager able to demonstrate effective people-management skills, be politically aware, collaborative and be able to deliver change at pace. Based at our modern offices in Hove, , we also provide the successful applicant with  flexible working, pay professional fees, relocation and subsidised use of council leisure facilities.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
