About the role

Would you like to further your career in Transport?

Our international award-winning Transport Projects Team is looking for an additional Public Transport Officer.

As a core member of the public transport team you are responsible for stakeholder communications with local bus & rail operators & to help plan, maintain, promote and develop the local public transport network. A key part will be project managing the implementation of the Bus Network Review, a package of improvements to the local bus network including new bus lanes and junction improvements to improve the punctuality of buses on a congested road network.

You will also assist the Public Transport Manager in the management of existing contracted (socially necessary) bus services including arranging payments to suppliers and for the responsible procurement of tenders and contract variations for both contracted bus routes and for the Bus Shelter cleaning, maintenance and advertising concession.

In addition to the transport planning aspect of the role, you will need to work closely with our key partner organisations including local bus and train operators, local communities, councillors and a variety of teams from across the City Council. Good communication skills, both verbal and in writing, and experience of stakeholder engagement at senior levels are therefore important attributes.

The role makes an important contribution to the work of our busy Transport Department so an ability to work within a team environment is essential as is experience of budget and contract management.

Application form and Supporting Statement - We highly recommend you read the ‘Statement Guidance’ below before you apply for this job. It is important you are able to show how you meet the essential criteria within the Person Specification when applying. Not following this guidance is likely to reduce your chances of success.
