Closing Date: 12th July 2020

Interview Date: 21st July 2020

About the role

You will work autonomously within a supportive and ‘dedicated’ or ‘hub’ AMHP team, carrying out the statutory functions of an AMHP, with all ages across the city. Since 2010 we have provided this service 24/7 developing a responsive and person-centred approach to our work. Seconded to the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and based within the local mental health hospital (although with home working arrangements during the Covid 19 pandemic), the AMHP team have excellent working relationships with our NHS mental health colleagues, and other agencies such as Sussex Police.

You will be involved in assessments in a variety of locations across the city and occasionally elsewhere in our neighbouring LSSA or further afield. As well as assessments for admission under the Mental Health Act, you will be involved in CTO assessments, applications to Court and assessments for Guardianship.

A shift system operates over 7 days between 08:00hrs and 22:00hrs with a ‘stand-by’ service overnight, reflecting the demands on the service. You would be expected to contribute to weekend and out of hours working including standby working. The pay offer reflects the nature of the work with additional out of hours working with enhancements for out of hours worked, standby fees and an additional payment of £2,600.04 p.a. for a position within the dedicated AMHP team.

Professional supervision is provided by the AMHP Practice Manager, while the team environment provides opportunities for additional consultation and reflection. The team provides the learning placements for trainee AMHPs within the city each year, with Practice Education roles undertaken by an from within the Central Team.

You will need to be an AMHP with a passion for fast moving crisis work assessing, multi-tasking and thinking on your feet and a desire to support people who are experiencing acute emotional and mental distress, and their relatives and carers, in keeping with the legal powers and associated Codes of Practice.

While out of hours working experience is not essential, we are looking for qualified AMHPs who have sufficient experience and can demonstrate the appropriate values, skills and knowledge of a robust AMHP.

The current job description is that of a Senior Social Worker, so these vacancies are open to registered social workers, currently warranted (or eligible for warranting) to practise as an AMHP. However we would welcome enquiries from occupational therapists and mental health nurses who are Approved Mental Health Professionals.

We offer a market supplement of £2,600.04 (pro rata)

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic people who are currently under-represented in our workforce.

This post is subject to Enhanced Adult Level DBS check.
