Portslade Sports Centre fully open after refurbishment
Portslade Sports Centre has recently reopened its five badminton court sports hall after extensive refurbishment work was undertaken.
The main aim of the project was to replace the floor of the sports hall as it was over 25 years old and was no longer suitable for continued use. The works were funded by Brighton & Hove City Council as part of our commitment to continually improve the city’s leisure facilities.
As well as the new floor, new high level panelling and fire doors have been installed and the hall has been repainted.
The Centre now has a far improved offering for the community and students at PACA who use the hall during the day.
This was the first major refurbishment of the ‘old’ hall and has been a big hit with customers. Staff have been thrilled with the feedback from users who have commented that it is a “vast improvement” and the “best I’ve ever played on”.
The hall caters for a lot of sports including football, badminton, indoor hockey, netball, basketball and handball along with children’s activities such as trampolining and birthday parties.
Marcus O'Loughlin, Freedom Leisure Centre Manager, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the newly improved sports hall, which includes the latest sports flooring – providing a much better surface to play on; absorbing shock and giving better grip! Our customers are all reporting a vastly improved experience, which is ultimately what the refurb was all about. We share with the council, for whom we operate this leisure centre, the ethos of wanting to enable more people to be more active more often, and thanks to their investment we expect to attract even more users to the centre."
Cllr Alan Robins, chair of the council's Economic Development and Culture Committee, said: “The work that’s been done to Portslade Sports Centre is fantastic and hopefully it will encourage more people to try out the centre and get active.
“The feedback we’ve received has been wonderful and it’s great to hear people are happy with the results.”
