Still time to make your voice heard on City Plan Part 2

There’s just two weeks left for people to comment on the second part of the city’s local development plan which sets out planning policies for homes, jobs and local infrastructure over the next decade.

City Plan Part 2 will sit alongside the adopted City Plan Part 1 to support the provision of low-cost, well-designed homes, local jobs, welcoming public places, enhanced green spaces and transport, health, cultural and educational facilities.

City Plan Part 2 is focused on ensuring communities reap the benefits from well-designed development. It will help new developments provide a variety of housing that offers a choice of good quality and affordable homes to buy or rent. Having a complete and up to date local plan is important because it will enable Brighton & Hove to have local policies that will carry weight when making planning decisions.

In the Plan, a total of 85% of housing sites will come forward on brownfield sites and some urban fringe sites have been identified to provide a positive opportunity to build family and affordable homes, as well as create improved and publicly accessible open space.

Most (more than 90%) of the urban fringe is however protected as green space and there will be four new local green spaces to further protect open space and habitats next to urban areas.

Through site allocations City Plan Part 2 will help ensure good management of development and enable sustainable growth.

The draft City Plan Part 2 builds on earlier consultation and stakeholder engagement undertaken in Summer 2016.
