Apprentice in frame for south east regional award
An apprentice at Brighton & Hove City Council could be named the south east’s top apprentice for her work in the council’s transport projects and engineering department.
Mairna Marzoug gained experience project managing bus shelter installation and bus stop accessibility improvement projects, working alongside working with civil engineers, councillors and stakeholders.
She has also acted as an apprentice ambassador for the South East Youth Apprenticeship Ambassador Network.
Mairna has been shortlisted as a South East Finalist for the National Apprenticeship Awards 2019.
She said: “Becoming an apprentice was the best decision for me. I’ve received so much support and encouragement from my manager and my team.
“I started my apprenticeship halfway through college, worried that I would be behind my peers. I was wrong.
“I’ve gained professional qualifications, two years’ experience working in a council, a driving license and a pension and I’ve networked with amazing people – all without debt.
“Not a lot of my peers can say the same!”
