Council leader on Cityclean GMB vote on strike action
Following notification yesterday from GMB union representatives that their Cityclean members have overwhelming voted in favour of industrial action, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, Councillor Nancy Platts has today said that the talks happening later this week can reset the relationship between the two organisations and prevent strikes.
Nancy said: “For the council to deliver the best services for our residents, businesses and visitors, working closely with trades unions is crucial and is always our aim.
“We know there are problems in our relationship with GMB and we’re determined to resolve this through a series of meeting with the arbitration service ACAS. The first meeting takes place this Thursday with two further meetings in everyone’s diaries to ensure this happens.
“We take very seriously the allegations of anti-trade union activity of some managers and at the meeting this Thursday with GMB and ACAS we’re keen to hear exactly what these allegations are so we can address them.”
