Domestic Homicide Review - Alina

The murder of 'Alina' was a tragic event which took the life of a young woman at the start of her adult life.

In circumstances such as this, community safety partnerships have a duty to review any domestic homicide which occurs in its area and to then report the findings to government. Such reviews try to ensure that local organisations understand what happened and identify the lessons to be learned in order to prevent such tragedies being repeated.

Brighton & Hove Community Safety partnership commissioned a review into this case.

Lessons learned

The review identified some valuable lessons for services in how they might improve responses to the perpetration of stalking and harassment, and improve victim safety.

It also highlighted the need to continue to raise awareness of stalking and harassment and the very real harm it can cause, with both services and the general public.

Brighton & Hove will continue to work with its partners to:

  • Retain the existing and improve services for victims/survivors of domestic violence & abuse including stalking and harassment
  • Work with partners to raise awareness about stalking and harassment; so that everyone knows that these behaviours are not acceptable, not their fault and that help and support is available
  • Explore ways of raising awareness in the wider community, so that family and friends know this as well and are better able to support their loved ones
  • Work together to identify perpetrators early and act on perpetrating behaviours
