Getting ready for summer – seafront shelter repairs

Seafront shelters are being renovated ahead of the summer holiday season. The shelters on Brighton & Hove promenade are currently fenced off while timbers are repaired and painted.

There are 17 shelters in total along the seven mile length of the city’s seafront. Eight are currently being repaired, six in Brighton and two in Hove.

One of the shelters, opposite the Ship Hotel, has already been completed. The remaining seven are expected to be ready by the end of the month in Brighton and mid-July in Hove.

The council regularly reviews the condition of the shelters along the iconic seafront and repairs are carried out when needed.

Cllr Alan Robins, lead councillor for tourism, said: “The shelters are popular with residents and tourists. I’m a paint specialist by trade and I know it’s important to carry out work like this. I always support action to look after the seafront and this is a small part of the big picture.”

Outreach workers have been offering help and advice to people who are rough sleeping in the areas where the shelters are being repaired. If anyone is concerned about someone who is rough sleeping, then please share the concerns so support can be provided.
