King Alfred development update
Read our updated statement about the King Alfred development from 14 June 2019.
At Policy, Resources and Growth Committee in January 2019, members unanimously voted to give Crest Nicholson a deadline of 30 March to enter into a development agreement.
Crest Nicholson remains keen to enter into a development agreement but have made clear they need confirmation there will be an orderly exit from the EU prior to signing the agreement, or confirmation that the UK will remain as part of the EU.
As the Brexit deadline has now been extended, this has affected Crest’s previously agreed deadline to sign by 30 March. Legally, this lapse means that a decision to enter into an agreement would need to be taken again by councillors at a future committee meeting.
We are committed to delivering a new leisure centre and pool complex for the city and are exploring all options on how best to move forward. As agreed by the Policy Resources and Growth Committee in January 2019, this includes considering alternative delivery options.
