Launching identity checking service for the EU Settlement Scheme

Brighton & Hove City Council is launching a free identity checking service at Brighton Town Hall to help EU citizens complete their EU Settlement Scheme application.

EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland citizens need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme if they want to continue living in the UK. The deadline for applying is 30 June 2021, or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. 

Verify your identity for the EU Settlement Scheme

While most of the application can be done on any computer or device with an internet connection, the first part requires EU citizens to verify their identity using their European identity document. 

You can do this by either downloading an app on a compatible Android phone or by posting your passport or ID card to the Home Office.

If you don’t have an Android phone or don’t want to send your documents in the post, you can use our drop-in ID document check service at Brighton Town Hall to have your identity documents verified. This service is free.

The drop-in service is available:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9.30am to 12 noon
  • Wednesday: 10am to 12 noon
