Meet the volunteer teams in the Royal Pavilion Garden

Visit the spectacular garden at the Royal Pavilion this summer and you’ll be sure of a friendly welcome.

Volunteer Gardeners play a crucial part in maintaining the historic garden and Garden Greeters welcome visitors to the Royal Pavilion Estate.

The Royal Pavilion Garden has one full time Head Gardener and one part-time Assistant Gardener working with 20 volunteers. Together they maintain the historic garden surrounding Brighton’s iconic Royal Pavilion using natural planting techniques, growing plants from the Regency period maintained on organic principles.

25th anniversary

This year the Volunteer Gardeners are celebrating their 25th anniversary in the garden as their work began when the Regency garden was restored. 

During the summer, visitors can find out more about the Royal Pavilion, the garden and surrounding buildings from one of our 26 volunteer Garden Greeters.

The Garden Greeter scheme was set up by the Royal Pavilion Estate’s partners - The Royal Pavilion & Museums, Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, the Chapel Royal, Pavilion Gardens Café and the Theatre Royal.

All the volunteers learn about the history of the estate and its buildings as well as the garden. It’s a great way of getting ‘behind the scenes’ and learning more about this special place.

They also have up to date information to share with visitors about what’s on across the estate over the summer season. In 2018, the Garden Greeters donated 1,150 hours to the Royal Pavilion Estate.
