Saying thanks – with Dame Jacqueline Wilson!

Tracy Beaker author Dame Jacqueline Wilson was the guest of honour at Brighton & Hove City Council’s first fostering celebration party.

The event was organised by the council to say thank you to its foster carers and to mark Fostering Fortnight, which runs from 13-26 May.

It featured a range of free therapy sessions including reiki massage, a performance by young women’s arts collective Miss Represented, and a free lunch.

Dame Jacqueline said: “Since writing my first book about Tracy Beaker I’ve had such a privilege to meet some many wonderful foster children and foster carers.

“Fostering is such a powerful and wonderful movement to change people’s lives.”

Council fostering manager Clare Smith said: “It was absolutely wonderful of Dame Jacqueline to come to our event.

“Her publishing company also donated books for us, so that every fostering household could go home with one.”
