School Streets Day
On 25 March, schools all over the country took part in the Sustrans School Streets test programme, which aims to ease the congestion, poor air quality and road safety concerns that many schools experience during drop-off and pick-up times.
Roads were closed outside schools and children were given the opportunity to enjoy the empty road space available.
It was the first ever School Streets trial at St Luke’s School and the council worked in partnership with Sustrans to help facilitate timed traffic restrictions on the road outside the school gates.
The council has published advice on safe parking outside schools and will continue to work with parents, schools and partners like Sustrans to support active, safe and sustainable travel to school.
