Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Stay away from Brighton & Hove this weekend
It’s been another challenging week, and I’d like to thank everyone who is playing their part during this crisis by following the government’s advice to stay at home and maintain social distancing.
With the weekend upon us, and sunshine and warmer weather in prospect, it’s tempting to want to get outside to let off steam and relax – but it’s crucial we protect the NHS, protect our residents and don’t let our guard slip.
That’s why I’m reiterating this vital message: Don’t travel to Brighton & Hove this weekend.
Nobody wants to tell people to stay away from the city we love and are proud to call home, least of all me as the leader of the council, but we have to take this action.
We’ll welcome visitors back with open arms later in the year, when the time is right – but right now it’s time to stay home. By staying away, your action could save lives.

Enjoy a virtual tour of Brighton & Hove’s attractions
In the meantime, you don’t have to be out and about to enjoy our city. Become a virtual visitor and enjoy an armchair tour of some of the city’s attractions instead - a chance to take in the ornate rooms of the fabulous Royal Pavilion, for example, or enjoy some much-needed comedy at Komedia!
You can also check out the changing weather on the seafront and watch Brighton & Hove’s beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the comfort of your home by tuning into our seafront webcam.
Below are more ideas of local attractions that can be enjoyed at home, free of charge:

Exercise close to home
We are keeping the seafront and our parks open (although playgrounds are shut) so that people who live nearby can exercise close to home once a day, in line with the government’s guidelines.
This is particularly important for residents living in the city centre without a garden or any outside space of their own - but please still make sure you keep a distance from others. If the area you are trying to exercise in is busy, please try to find an alternative spot nearby.
Keep your distance – banners on seafront
More than 50 banners have gone up along the seafront from the marina to Hove Lagoon, reminding people of the importance of social distancing and staying two metres apart.
Let’s all stay safe and support our amazing NHS staff and frontline workers.
