The government advice for the clinically extremely vulnerable in England is changing.
In line with the latest medical advice, the government are gradually easing the restrictions on people in the ‘shielded group’. They will continue to monitor the virus and if the spread increases they may need to issue advice for this group to shield again.
From 6 July, you can:
- gather in groups of up to six people outdoors, with social distancing
- create a support bubble with one other household, if you live alone or are a single parent household
From 1 August, you can:
- visit shops and places of worship, with social distancing
- return to work, if you cannot work from home and your workplace is covid-secure
But remember, where you can, to stay at home as much as possible
Support available for those that are shielding
Support from government provided food boxes and medicine deliveries will stop at the end of July.
After July, you can continue to access priority supermarket delivery slots (but you will need to register for this before 17 July online at GOV.UK or call 0800 028 8327).
NHS Volunteer Responders will also continue to offer support to those who need it, including collecting and delivering food and medicines. They can also offer a Check in and Chat Plus role to provide peer support and companionship to people who are shielding as they adapt to a more normal way of life. Please call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm)

Advice for clinically extremely vulnerable
Unless advised otherwise by your clinician, you are still in the ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ category and should continue to follow the latest government advice on shielding.
The updated shielding guidance should not affect any social care or support you were receiving prior to the start of shielding.
Any essential carers or visitors who support you with your everyday needs can continue to visit unless they have any of the symptoms of Covid-19.
Individuals should continue to contact their local council if they have any ongoing social care needs.
People in the clinically extremely vulnerable group should continue to access the NHS services they need during this time.
