From today (Monday 8 June) residents in South Portslade are being invited to have their say on proposals for a residents parking scheme in the area.
Following a recent consultation in September 2019, the majority of people said they would prefer a light touch scheme. It is proposed it would operate for two hours a day, from 11am-noon and 6pm-7pm Monday to Friday.
Information about the scheme has been sent to around 2500 addresses. Due to circumstances arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, residents are then being asked to complete an online questionnaire by the closing date of Friday 17 July.
If you require more information before completing the online questionnaire, please email parking.consultation@brighton-hove.gov.uk or call the dedicated voice mail service on 01273 292194 between 10am and noon, Mon-Wed. A paper version of the questionnaire is available for anyone unable to fill in the online questionnaire by calling 01273 290472 between 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
All responses will then be carefully considered and reported to the council’s Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee on Tuesday 29 September.
A consultation in September 2019 showed that:
- 60.5% of respondents support the idea of a resident parking scheme in the area based on a 36% response rate.
- 56.6% of respondents wanted a light touch scheme (11am to midday and from 6pm to 7pm).
- 43.4% preferred a full scheme (9am to 8pm).
- 54.5% of respondents supported a Monday to Friday scheme while 45.6% supported a Monday to Sunday scheme.
South Portslade councillor Les Hamilton said: “We have listened to residents in South Portslade and now want to hear their views about these latest proposals.
“I’d urge all residents in the area to take part to ensure any decision we make is representative of the views of people living in South Portslade.”
