In March, the council’s Virtual School team hosted its annual Foster Carer Conference to celebrate the invaluable work of foster carers in the city.

At the 4 March 2024 Special Full Council meeting, Brighton & Hove councillors made the difficult decisions to close St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School and St Peter’s Community Primary and Nursery School from 31 August.

A consultation has begun with parents and carers of pupils at Homewood College and the school staff about proposals to stop admissions and find alternative educational placements for current pupils.

Recommendations to close St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School and St Peter’s Community Primary and Nursery School will be discussed at the Children, Families and Schools Committee on 29 February.

Construction workers in the city are developing new skills through a Local Employment Scheme supported by section 106 developer contributions. Brighton & Hove City Council is one of the few local authorities to offer the training.
